Wow, so 2013 is shaping up to look like another impressive year at the movies! Earlier this year, I listed the ones I was most excited to see, and this week two more have released trailers that only increase my desire for their release dates to come faster. First was the trailer for Paul Greengrass’s new film, Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks. This tell the true story of the captain of the Maersk Alabama, which was taken by pirates in 2009. We all know how the story ultimately played out, but Greengrass is so masterful at building tension and keeping audiences off guard I expect this to be remarkable.
That in itself looked incredible, until last night the first teaser for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity was released.
Cuaron’s first movie since Children of Men, this was pulse pounding even watching it on a computer screen. I can’t wait to see the trailer again in a theater, and desperately want to see the movie in IMAX. Between these two and several more offerings from the likes of the Coens, Refn, and many more, this is definitely an exciting slate of films on the horizon.
