Once Upon a Time VII

Over at Stainless Steel Droppings, who hosted the excellent Graveyard Book Read-Along I took part in last year, they’re rolling out their seventh Once Upon a Time Challenge.  They’ve set up several levels of participation one can take part in, and I’m going to take a few days to think of exactly what I’m going to read to take part in this.  I’m definitely going to do the re-read of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but there’s so much else to explore in the world of Fantasy and Folklore.  To help me decide, please feel free to drop suggestions in the comments below.  Is there an obscure fairy tale or fantasy story you want to tell people about?  Do you think Once Upon a Time is a TV show I should check out?  Is this a good time to re-watch Company of Wolves?  Let me know what you think I should check out, or re-read/re-watch.  And consider signing up yourselves.

  1. Well, I don’t know how obscure it is, but The Twelve Dancing Princesses has become one of my favorite fairy tales, and it’s not as well known as, say, Cinderella. I just reread Princess of the Midnight Ball, which is an excellent retelling. And yes, I highly recommend the Once Upon a Time TV show! Especially if you like Disney cartoons… I’m sure if you start following the review site for this challenge, you will swiftly have more ideas than you have time for–that always happens to me!

  2. I’m hoping my library has a copy of The Company of Wolves. I think it is perfect for OUAT and want to see it again! I also have a copy of Phillip Pullman’s Grimm’s Tales for Young and Old that I hope to read.

What do you think?
